Kolt Handmade

Hi you guys!

I’ve been waiting for the longest time to introduce this brand to you! It holds a special place in my heart, not only does it represent a big part of my background Guatemala, but the founder of this brand is a longtime friend of mine, who I very much admire and look up to. She truly inspires me daily. Her passion is reflected through her designs, making her brand inspiring. I couldn't be prouder of her over all accomplishments.

Not a lot of people know I was raised in Guatemala which is why I wanted to share with you my readers, a bit about where I grew up.

Kolt Handmade, is home based in Guatemala. All the bags are handmade from start to finish. They are a true representation to the beauty and rich culture of this country. I personally love every single bag simply because of its uniqueness in design but while capturing the charm and art work the brand represents of the Mayan culture.

Each bag is made with leather and combines textiles from different regions of the country.

Here is a little more of Kolt Handmade and the founder and friend Stefanie Richmond.

1.      Tell us where you are from and a bit about Guatemala?

I was born and raised in Guatemala, which still to this day, hold the happiest moments of my life. Guatemala is a place of amazing beautiful people, a rich culture and incredible landscapes.

2.      When did you start your handbag company?

I created Kolt Handmade back in November of 2015. I’ve always loved design and wanted to create my own company; this brand was the fusion of both.

3.      What was your inspiration to start designing handbags?

I initially wanted to create a line of leather products but when I research textiles of Guatemala I was amazed. It takes up to three months to make a huipil, (a ´Huipil´ is the traditional blouse worn by indigenous Guatemalans). Every huipil is unique and special to the area of Guatemala where it is made, and it takes years for people to prefect their craft.

This is when I decided to incorporate Guatemalan textiles to by brand.

4.      What was the biggest fear when going out and starting your own line?

My biggest fear to this day is to stay stuck, which is why I try to constantly create new and better designs. I created my own workshop which has been so great for me in creating different ways to work with the textiles.

5.      How do you want women to feel when wearing your bags?

Ultimately to feel beautiful when they wear a Kolt Handmade bag.

6.      What is your favorite part about designing handbags?

My favorite part of design is the production part, this is when I feel creative. Though, seeing your vision come to life is the part I look forward to the most.

7.      Who is part of your team?

My team is made of men and women who are the ones that make the shoes and bags. This is about a team of 10 people, all Guatemalans. You can read who they are in my website under OUR TEAM.

8.      Can you tell us a little bit about the textiles you use on the handbags?

The huipil represents several things: the geographical origin of the person, ethnic identity, weaving technics and hours dedicated into weaving each piece. My favorite ones come from the areas of Chichicastenango and San Juan, Guatemala.

9.      Where do you hope to see your brand in the future?

Hopefully I will expand it beyond Guatemala.

10. What do you want people to know about Kolt Handmade?
